Hit-Run Crash: Suspect Nabbed In Harrison After State Police Cruiser Struck On I-684

A New York State Police vehicle was damaged by a hit-and-run driver while the trooper was stopped on I-684 helping another motorist in Northern Westchester.

The incident took place in Bedford around 6 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 26.

Trooper AJ Hicks said the crash occurred while the trooper was stopped in the southbound lane of I-684 assisting another driver when a gold Lexus SUV struck the passenger side of the police cruiser.

The driver, identified as Thomas Haber, age 81, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, then fled the area, Hicks said.

The trooper was not injured in the crash, he added.

Haber was stopped by a Harrison Police officer and detained.
